Mason stormed down the staircase, confused and upset by Juliet’s refusal to bond with him. He had laid his heart on the line and she turned him down. What hurt more than anything was that he truly did love her and she didn’t believe him when he told her.

“Mason,” Mercy called from across the foyer. He looked her way and she frowned. “Oh dear, she didn’t go for your plan.”

“No, she turned me down,” he growled.

She placed her hands on her hips and glared at him. “Well, what did you expect? No female wants to be asked to bond with her mate because it’s the only way to save her.”

“I thought you were on my side?” he said, astonished she was lecturing him after he had been crushed by Juliet’s rejection.

Her face softened. “I am on your side, Mason. I want you to have what Alec and I have, and I know she’s the one who can give that to you, but jeez, did you have to go off half-cocked?”

“I need her to be safe,” he argued.

“What you need is for her to agree to this,” she argued back.

“Well, that is not happening,” he grumbled.

Mercy walked to him and smiled. “You have such little faith.”

“If you can convince her to bond with me, I will love you forever,” he told her, hugging her tight.

“That happens to be my mate you are vowing your love to while her holding in your arms,” Alec growled from the door of his study.

“Uh-oh,” Mercy said with smile. “We’ve been caught,”

“Oh please, I don’t need your Alpha male to beat the crap out of me, the day has been bad enough already,” Mason groaned, letting her go and backing away.

“Settle down, my mate knows that he is the only male I will ever love,” Mercy told him before gliding to Alec’s side and placing a kiss on him that would melt even the hardest of men. “Now, Mason and I were discussing how best to get Juliet to bond with him now that he messed up his proposal.”

Alec looked to Mason with sympathy. “I think I will go back into my office.”

He tried to turn away but Mercy placed herself between him and the doorway. “This might take your help, too,” she said with a smile.

“I have important pack business to see to,” he told her.

Mercy ran her finger up his chest and bit her lip enticingly. “More important than you mate’s happiness?”

He sighed and pressed a kiss to her lips. “Nothing is more important than you,” he told her caressing her, cheek lovingly.

“Good to know,” she said before turning back to Mason. “Now you come with me, we have work to do.”
